About Barisal district of Bangladesh: Barisal is one of the beautiful district of Bangladesh.Barisal is oficially is called Barishal.Barisal is a district in south central Bangladesh,formally called Bakerganj district established in 1797.Its headquaters are in the city of Barisal.which is allso headquaters of Barisal division.Barisal division is one of the eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh.It has an area 13,644.85km(5,268.31sq mi)and population of 91,100,102 at the 2011 census.It is the populous division within the entirely of Bangladesh.It is bounded by dhaka division on the north ,the bay of bengal on the south ,chittagong division on the east and khulnadivision on the west.It is in the delta of the padma(Ganges[Gangea]) and jamuna(brahmaputra)rivers on the kirtonkhola an offshoot of the Arial Khan River.It is bounded by Madaripur,shariatpur,chadpur and lakshmipur district on the north ,patuakhali,barguna and jhalokhati districts on the south bhola and laksmipur dristricts on the east ,jhalokhati,pirojpur and gopalgang dristricts on the west.in ancient name barisal was kingdom chandradwip.the capital of this kingdom wsa at bakla.the founderof the kingdom was DNUJ MADHAV or DANUJ MARDHAN DEV.then in british period it became a district and name as Bakerganj,after all now it is Barisal district.
Histroy: In early times the barisal region was cmposed of an amalgametion of marshlands farmed by the merging og islands brought into existence and built up by alluvial soils washed down the great channels of the combind Brahmaoutra Ganges Meghna:river systems.In the early 13th century Muhammad Bin Baktiyar Khalji led the meslim conquest of Barisal and soon later Muhammad Bin Tughluq Completely comquered EASTERN BENGAL.The hindu chicftains from north west bengal were dislodgedfrom power and they dissperses over barisal rerion and founded the kindom of bakla during the mughal intervention in bengal,hindu socity was concentrated to northern and westeern Barisal(known as bakarganj).This dristrict southern portion was still coverd by forests and lanced wth lagoons.The north west was also the only of bakarganj where the hindu population exccdedmuslims in early british censues.
Bakerganj dristrict was estanblished in 1797.Later on it was renamed as barisal district.Barisal was declared a divisionn on january 1993.The district consists of one city corporation ,five munucipilities ,66wards,111mahallas,10 upozilla,86union parishads,1147 and 1175villages.
Upazilla: Agailjhara,Babugang,Bakergang,Banaripara,Bariasal sadar,Gournodi,Hizla,Mehendigang,Muladi and Wazirpur upazilla.
Economy: Brisal as known as the "GRANARY OF BENGAL" for its rice production.It is still an important area of the country.Since the middle ages,Barisal has acted as a transshipment center for hides,rice,dried beanns,dried peas,lentlils,chickpeas and other legumes for bengal,Bakery,textile and pharmaceulical productds are the output of a few industrial installationns.there are SHERE BANGLA MEDICAL COLLEGE(affilliated with the national university and BM COLLEGE an educational instutution of Barisal division estanblished in 1889).Barisal is also a river port once connecting calcutta Bariasal Dhaka and many other routes.Today Barisal river port is the most important hub of stemer and motor launch service of the southern Bangladesh.Barisal economic is mostly based on farming and fishing .
Crops ands fruits: Mango,jackfriut,bamboo,betel nut,coconut and date palm.However,only a small portion of the country"s land surface is covered with forests,.lots of birds and animals in this districts.
Education: Barisal division has the highest literacy rate (age 7 and over)of any dovision in the country 65% as the 2011 Bangladesh census.There are two public university .Three private university.There are 258 colleges in this divisions.
Religion: Islam is the predominant religion in the Barisal division,with a large minority population of hindus and small populations of christians and buddhists and others .

Tourist place: Kuakata beach is the main tourist spot in the division.It is one of the two sea beaches in south asia.where both sunrise and sunset at sea can be seen.
Durga sagor is a man made pond where a number of migratory birds arrive everyy winter.
Guthia mosque is acomplex of Bangladesh havig a land area of 5.7 hactores(14 acres)comaring to the 3.36 hactor (8.30acres)land area of the national mosque BAITUL MUKARRAM of the country.
